Change Search Client Interface Language

As an admin, you can change the interface language of your search clients to suit your users' needs. Once configured, SearchUnify remembers the language settings so that:

  • New users will interact with the search client in the selected default language.

  • Existing users can migrate to the new language interface by clearing their browser cache.

Types of Language Support

SearchUnify supports two categories of interface languages:

  • Native Support: Arabic, German, French, and Mandarin Chinese.

  • Extended Support: Armenian, Basque, Brazilian Portuguese, Bulgarian, Catalan, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Gaelic, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Irish Gaelic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Kurdish, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, and Thai.

To change the interface language:

  • Native Support Languages: Follow the instructions in the Changing Interface Language (Native) section.

  • Extended Support Languages: Refer to the Changing Interface Language (Extended) section for detailed instructions.

Changing Interface Language (Native)

  1. Navigate to Search Clients and click the Edit () icon.
  2. Go to the Language Manager tab.
  3. From the Languages for Search Client dropdown, select one or more native languages (Arabic, German, French, or Mandarin Chinese).
  4. Use the Default Language for Search Client dropdown to set the default interface language
  5. Click Add to save your settings.

Changing Interface Language (Extended)

  1. Navigate to Search Clients and click the Edit () icon.
  2. Go to the Language Manager tab.
  3. From the Languages for Search Client dropdown, select one or more extended languages.
  4. Download the Translation.csv file.

  5. Open the Translation.csv file and replace all commas with backticks (`), as commas are no longer supported as delimiters.

  6. Add the two-letter language code for your chosen language at the end of the first row, preceded by a backtick. For example:

    • ja for Japanese

    • ru for Russian

    • ko for Korean

Language codes can be found in the Languages for Search Client dropdown, where they appear after the language name (e.g., русский-ru for Russian, 한국어-ko for Korean, 日本語-ja for Japanese).

  7. In the Translation.csv file, translate the labels in each row. Add the translated text in the corresponding column for your chosen language code. For example, the image below shows Russian translations added in the second, third, and fourth rows.

  8. Save the updated file and upload it.
  9. Use the Default Language for Search Client dropdown to select the default interface language, then click Add to save your changes.
